Deli-style Tuna Reuben

Ingredients

  • 1 can (170g) Ocean’s Solid White Tuna in water
  • 1 tsp Montreal steak spice
  • ⅓ cup thousand islands dressing, divided
  • 4 slices marble rye bread
  • 2 tbsp sauerkraut
  • 2 slices swiss cheese
  • Butter, softened to room temperature
  • Dill pickles, to serve

Directions

  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine tuna, Montreal steak spice and 1 tablespoon of thousand island dressing.
  2. Mix well, breaking the tuna into large chunks.
  3. Spread remaining dressing onto the slices of rye bread.
  4. On the bottoms of two slices, divide the sauerkraut and top each with a slice of Swiss cheese.
  5. Spoon tuna mixture over the cheese and finish with the remaining bread, buttered side up.
  6. Heat a pan over medium and add a bit of butter to coat the surface.
  7. When the butter is hot, add the sandwiches, pressing gently to help them brown evenly.
  8. Cook until the bread is golden, then flip carefully and cook until the other sides are toasted and the cheese just begins to melt.
  9. Cut each sandwich in half and serve with a crisp dill pickle.
