Tuna Melt Monsieur (or tuna croque monsieur)

Ingredients

  • 1 can (80g) Ocean’s Solid Light Tuna in Olive Oil, drained
  • 1 tbsp diced cornichons
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp minced shallots or green onion
  • Pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
  • ⅓ cup Gruyere, Emmental or similar style cheese, divided
  • 1 tbsp butter, softened to room temperature
  • 2 slices white sandwich bread
  • ⅓ cup jarred alfredo sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, mix together tuna, cornichons, mustard, shallots and cayenne pepper, if using.
  3. Lightly butter one side of each piece of bread.
  4. On the unbuttered side of one slice of bread, sprinkle most of the cheese, reserving about a tablespoon.
  5. Top with tuna mixture and place second piece of bread on top, buttered side up.
  6. Heat a small, oven proof frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Place the sandwich in the pan with cheese side on the bottom.
  8. Cook until bottom is lightly browned and crisp then flip.
  9. Top with alfredo sauce and remaining cheese.
  10. Transfer to the oven and switch to broil setting.
  11. Cook until sauce and cheese are lightly browned, 3 to 4 minutes.
